Fig. 5 Expression of achn in developing zebrafish somites. (A) Dorsal view of the trunk region at the 5 somite stage (12 h post fertilization (hpf)), anterior left. achn mRNA is expressed at low levels in pre-somitic mesoderm (psm), with more expression medially near the notochord (nc) than laterally. In the first somites that form, achn is expressed in mesenchymal cells (arrowhead), with little expression in epithelialized border cells (arrow). (B) Lateral view of the trunk at the 10 somite stage (15 hpf), anterior left. achn expression is maintained in a mosaic fashion in the mesenchyme (arrowhead), with little expression at somite borders (arrow). Black lines outline somites. Scale bars: 50 μm.
