Fig. 3 Summary of the expression domains of the transporters used in this study in Xenopus and zebrafish pronephros. Xenopus pronephros has proximal and distal domains subdivided into early (E) and late (L) segments (Zhou and Vize, 2004). The zebrafish pronephric duct has been subdivided into four segments (S1–S4) based on the data presented here and previous unpublished results showing that ClC-K extends further anteriorly than ret1 in the zebrafish pronephros. S1 and S2 may correspond to proximal tubules. S3 expresses both proximal and distal tubule markers. S4 appears equivalent to the duct. The localization of the expression domains of the transporters is shown below the corresponding segments.
