Anatomical structures shown: anterior and posterior maculae; anterior, lateral and posterior cristae
Stage: A: 24-30h; B,E,H: 48h; C,F,I: 72h; D,G,J: 5 d
Genetic (background) strain: Oxford wild-type
Genotype: wild-type
Animal state: fixed
Labeling: FITC-phalloidin
Description: Orientation: A-D: dorsolateral views, medial to top, anterior to left; E-G: dorsal views, medial to top, anterior to left; H-J: lateral views, dorsal to top, anterior to left. Development of maculae and cristae in the zebrafish ear, as shown by staining with FITC-phalloidin to label the hair bundles of the hair cells. This also stains cortical actin, revealing the outlines of cells. The anterior macula on the ventral floor of the vesicle develops a characteristic rounded shape; the posterior macula on the medial wall develops a slim anterior projection. am, anterior macula; pm, posterior macula; ac, lc, pc, anterior, lateral and posterior cristae. Scale bars = 25µm.
