- Definition
- An alicyclic primary alcohol that is cyclohexane substituted by a hydroxy methyl group and methyl group at positions 1 and 4. It acts as a hydrotrope, solubilizing hydrophobic substances in aqueous environments. It also prevents protein aggregation, alters membrane dynamics and metal homeostasis, and is used in a flotation process for cleaning and processing coal.
