Name: | adenohypophysis |
---|---|
Synonyms: | anterior hypophysis, anterior pituitary |
Definition: | The anterior lobe of the hypophysis (pituitary gland). This lobe contains cells that produce prolactin, growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone and proopiomelanocortin. In contrast to mammalian vertebrates, the adenohypophysis remains in a subepithelial position and there exists no equivalent of Rathke's pouch in zebrafish. |

Name: | somatotropin secreting cell differentiation |
---|---|
Synonyms: | growth hormone secreting cell differentiation, somatotrope differentiation, somatotroph differentiation, somatotrophin secreting cell differentiation, somatotropic cell differentiation, somatrophic cell differentiation |
Definition: | The process in which a relatively unspecialized cell acquires specialized structural and/or functional features of a somatotropin secreting cell. A somatotropin secreting cell is an acidophilic cell of the anterior pituitary that produces growth hormone, somatotropin. |
