In this construct, the myo6b promoter drives expression in sensory hair cells of a construct encoding an N-terminal truncated form of Tmie, in which the predicted first transmembrane helix of Tmie has been replaced with a known signal peptide (SP) from the zebrafish glutamate receptor Gria2a. The unrelated signal peptide serves to preserve the predicted membrane topology of Tmie.
