Biography and Research Interest
I work since 2017 as an assistant Professor at the department of Environment and Healthy at the VU Amsterdam. I teache toxicology at BSc and MSc level. My research focuses on studying the toxicological effects of environmental contaminants using zebrafish (Danio rerio). I identify toxic mechanism of action of environmental pollutants and develop new specific bioassays also applicable for chemical toxicity screening. Within several European projects I characterized the toxic potential and identified the mechanisms of toxicity of different chemicals found in the environment. Therefore I applied and adapted state of the art genomics, proteomics and metabolomics technologies. Moreover, I worked on biological test systems that can guide contaminant detection in complex environmental samples by combining bioassays with analytical chemical analysis methods (EDA). During the last years I developed a strong interest for behavioural testing and neurotoxicity.
