Biography and Research Interest
Since November 2007, I’m a PhD student at the MRC Developmental Neurobiology at King’s College London and now at the Instiute for Toxicology and Genetics (ITG), Karlsruhe Institue of Technology (KIT), with Dr. Steffen Scholpp as my supervisor. Our group is interested in the early development of the thalamus – the main relay station of the brain. To date, a detailed description about thalamic development and parcellation is lacking. I'm interested in pattering and regionalization of the diencephalon and the thalamic cell fate specification in zebrafish. In my PhD project I want to address in particular the function of the Lhx2 and Lhx9 genes in thalamic development. From other vertebrate model organism we know that Lhx2 and Lhx9 marks the thalamus but their function is unknown. My further aim is to study the anatomy of the thalamus by using transgenic zebrafish lines expressing fluorescence proteins under the control of thalamic specific markers.
