Biography and Research Interest
Molecular phylogenetics and comparative genomics. Projects in my lab include phylogenetic analyses of major groups of actinopterygian fishes with particular interest in the Cyprinidae and other ostariophysans; comparative analysis of nuclear and mitochondrial genomes or genomic regions; evaluation of nucleotide sampling in phylogenetic analysis (i.e., how many nucleotides are required to resolve phylogenies relative to divergence among taxa, taxon sampling, and tree shape); and investigation of historical signal in molecular data sets (when is homoplasy bad, when is homoplasy good, and how can we tell the difference?).
