(B) Bmp-attenuation model in which Bmp-antagonists, secreted from the dorsal tissue of the embryo, promotes preplacodal fate in nonneural ectoderm abutting the anterior neural plate. In this model, Bmp must be fully blocked to permit preplacodal specification.
