Definition: | Descending interneurons that are the most ventrally positioned in the spinal cord. The cell body are ventral to the level of the Mauthner axon. The cell body is positioned medial to the central canal but do not contact it differentiating them from KA cells. There are multiple VeMe cells in each segment and they are mulitipolar with elaborate local branching. These neurons are glutamatergic. |
