Term Name: | LARD |
---|---|
Synonyms: | Large Retrotransposon Derivative, large_retrotransposon_derivative |
Definition: | Large Retrotransposon Derivative elements are long-terminal repeats that contain reverse transcriptase priming sites and are conserved in sequence but contain no open reading frames encoding typical retrotransposon proteins . The LARDs identified in barley and other Triticeae have LTRs ~5.5 kb and an interal domain of ~3.5 kb. LARDs lack coding domains and thus do not encode proteins. |
