Synonyms: | adenosine triphosphate-dependent deoxyribonuclease activity, ATP-dependent DNase activity, deoxyribonuclease (adenosine triphosphate-hydrolyzing), deoxyribonuclease (ATP- and S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent), type I restriction enzyme activity |
Definition: | Catalysis of the endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA to give random double-stranded fragments with terminal 5' or 3' protrusions, driven by ATP hydrolysis. Cleavage is dependent on the presence in the DNA of a specific recognition site. Cleavage may occur hundreds or thousands of base pairs away from the recognition site due to translocation of DNA. |
