light ablation: axon: Mauthner neuron |
---|
Name: | light ablation |
---|---|
Synonyms: | |
Definition: | Experimental condition which uses focused light to ablate an anatomical structure or cell. |
Ontology: | Zebrafish Environment Condition Ontology [ZECO:0000170] |
Name: | axon |
---|---|
Synonyms: | |
Definition: | The long process of a neuron that conducts nerve impulses, usually away from the cell body to the terminals and varicosities, which are sites of storage and release of neurotransmitter. |
Ontology: | GO: Cellular Component [GO:0030424] QuickGO AmiGO |
Name: | Mauthner neuron |
---|---|
Synonyms: | |
Definition: | Is a hindbrain interneuron. Giant reticulospinal neurons possessing thick crossed axons and positioned dorsally in the hindbrain tegmentum at the level of entrance of the eighth cranial nerve. The Mauthner neuron is paired. The M-cell has two large invariant dendrites: The lateral dendrite terminates in the sensory neuropil of the acoustico-lateral area, and the ventral dendrite terminates in the neuropil of the motor tegmentum. Fine dendrites are present, and mostly arise from three regions; from the terminus of each major dendrite and from the ventral surface of the perikaryon. |

Name: | chemical treatment by environment |
---|---|
Synonyms: | |
Definition: | Chemical treatment condition in which the chemical is introduced through the environment. For zebrafish this is the tank water. |
Ontology: | Zebrafish Environment Condition Ontology [ZECO:0000238] |
Name: | 4-phenylbutyric acid |
---|---|
Synonyms: | 4-PHENYL-BUTANOIC ACID, 4-Phenyl-n-butyric acid, 4-phenylbutanoic acid, Benzenebutyric acid, gamma-Phenyl-n-butyric acid, gamma-phenylbutyric acid, omega-Phenylbutanoic acid, omega-phenylbutyric acid, PBA |
Definition: | A monocarboxylic acid the structure of which is that of butyric acid substituted with a phenyl group at C-4. It is a histone deacetylase inhibitor that displays anticancer activity. It inhibits cell proliferation, invasion and migration and induces apoptosis in glioma cells. It also inhibits protein isoprenylation, depletes plasma glutamine, increases production of foetal haemoglobin through transcriptional activation of the gamma-globin gene and affects hPPARgamma activation. |
